I was thrilled when I received an invite, from the PR team People’s Revolution, to the Francesca Liberatore NYFW F/W 2017 show. Don’t ask me how, but by sheer luck I ended up in the front row and got to enjoy the entire runway show from up close. I was seated next to other amazing artists and even exchanged information. Talk about a good atmosphere.
Before the show even started many people got up and took some shots on the runway. The entire audience seemed to be in a good mood and everyone looked Fashion Week worthy. I, myself, didn’t get up to take shots of my outfit until after the show, but that was mostly because I was too excited to stand still.
That’s when the show started. I was immediately mesmerized and impressed by Francesca’s powerful presence. The pieces I saw coming down the runway all told a story, and some pieces literally told a story. “Liberatore explores the powerful and popular, the effect their words and actions have on society and the role that society plays in shaping or destroying them. The duality intertwines to form a magnifying glass from which we are asked to view the current state of affairs.” This collection could not have come at a better time. I feel it all our responsibility to help our fellow human to take a look in the mirror, and see what we have become, and what truly matters. It’s imperative we make 2017 better than 2016.
Freedom of speech, worship, want, fear, power and promises are the conductors of the collection.
These statements were not only visible in the colors on the runway, the words were literally written on some of the pieces. “Powerful stripes in rich blood orange, brick red, magenta, lime, grey and black harken a progress parade on the world’s stage. Champagne, ivory and pewter are featured through the collection with velvet embellishments, signature embroideries and used as a layering piece.” When the coat with the words “SAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH,” came by, I was mesmerized and even had to look around and make sure that other people felt the same way -they did. I saw many pictures appear on social media of exactly that coat.
It’s powerful to see what people take away from watching a runway show. Some people might walk away inspired to dress better. I believe Francesca left us wanting to be better.
Francesca Liberatore’s collection made me think, it made me feel, and it inspired me to open my mouth and use my voice.
